Biography

Akbar Shafiee (born 1979) is a specialist in community medicine. He studied medicine at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran (1996-2003). After doing his military service in the Western borders of Iran, he began his career as a physician in the private section. Due to his interest in science and conducting research, he joined the cardiovascular research department of Tehran Heart Center in 2009. In 2010 he began a course on vitality and ageing at Leiden University, the Netherlands, to obtain a master of Science degree. After his graduation in 2011, he returned to Iran and began his career as a research associate at Tehran Heart Center. Simultaneously, he joined the knowledge management unit of Rejaee Heart Hospital to develop the national guidelines in Cardiology. In September 2014, he began his residency in community medicine and got his specialty degree in September 2018. In September 2019, he was appointed as the director of international affairs at the Cardiovascular Diseases Research Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He has published over 70 articles in medical sciences and has conducted many workshops in scientific writing and methodology.
